Invented in the late 1960s by Dr. Akira Fujishima and Dr. Kenichi Honda, photocatalysis works in a similar way that solar panels use light energy to harness power.
Photocatalysis is the natural phenomenon through which a substance uses light energy (natural or artificial) to clean its surface by removing contaminants and harmful compounds. Natural or artificial light encounters the TiO2 particulate in Activa Coating’s paint and activates it, thus energizing the particle. When activated by light, the oxidation process begins; organic and inorganic harmful substances that come in contact with a photocatalytic surface are broken down and transformed into harmless substances.
Some of the substances that are broken down during the photocatalytic process are carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, ethanol, and benzene. These harmful compounds are turned into gypsum, calcium nitrate, and limestone, which are all safe for humans. In the case of hard surfaces (like your painted walls), the surface becomes self-cleaning and purifies the air as polluted air passes over the surface.
Imagine being in the office where everyone is sick, or sending your kids to school, and people are coughing and sneezing their sickness into the air. Those particles are now in the air you breathe. Or, imagine working near a busy street where lots of trucks drive by and you are breathing in the harmful exhaust fumes that comes from those trucks during the majority of your work week. Another example is for those who experience asthma or allergies which symptoms are easily exacerbated by breathing in polluted air that contains smoke, chemical fumes, and/or pollen.
Now, imagine if there was a way to continuously clean that air and those surfaces just by flipping on a light or opening the blinds. What if the walls in the hospital or doctor’s office were able to sanitize the air you breathe so you don’t inhale all the germs from someone coughing or sneezing? What if the walls in your office could clean the air so you don’t breathe in the exhaust fumes from all the trucks and cars that drive by? And what if your walls could purify the air for those who are high risk by removing smoke, chemical fumes, and pollen? What if it was as easy as painting your walls?
Activa Coating, when applied to the interior or exterior of offices, homes, and buildings, will help eliminate airborne toxic pollutants produced by cars, factories, varnishes, glues, etc., reduce the presence of microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, etc.) by destroying the substances they feed on, remove dirt from surfaces (ensuring that your walls stay cleaner for longer without washing or repainting), and eliminate odors produced by organic substances present in the air permanently. Activa Coating creates a healthier environment by providing safer and cleaner air for you, your coworkers, and your family to breathe.
