“Clear Surface Treatment is a self-cleaning clear coating that should be used on surfaces with grime build-up occurring in polluted or industrial areas where traffic and chemical pollutants are present. This product reduces pollution, cleans surfaces, reduces maintenance costs, reduces odors, improves appearance of structures, limits the growth of mold and bacteria, and contributes to the overall health of buildings and the environment. This product can be applied to stone and concrete facades and walkways, historical buildings, monuments, glass and coated surfaces, pedestrian areas, city centers, and hardscapes.”
Clear Surface Treatment is the perfect smart-technology coating to use during your next brick paving project. Whether you’re laying brick for your patio, walkway, driveway, or redoing a road, one of the best ways to protect the environment and your brick investment is with our clear coating. This treatment helps protects your investment by providing a solid, clear layer of protectant against the elements like the sun, rain, snow, wind, cars, and foot traffic. Think of it like a clear coating that seals in all the tiny minerals that compose an entire brick.
It’s also one of the best ways to protect and defend the environment in an unobtrusive or obvious way. Don’t mistake Clear Surface Treatment for being any less effective as our other paints just because it’s clear. It packs the same punch that our other paints do. It helps to reduce pollution and protects the integrity of structures (as stated above and here in this blog). This doubly protects your investment—as well as helping the environment which we desperately need during this climate emergency.
What are bricks made from?
Bricks are produced by heating natural clay at very high temperatures for a long period of time to create the true, hard bricks you are probably picturing. However, there are other types of “bricks” that are making their way onto our roads and such. They are made of concrete and dyed with pigments to imitate the natural, earth-tone colorings of bricks. Concrete “bricks” are much less durable than traditional clay bricks.
What is the difference between brick pavers and regular bricks?
When you think of bricks, you likely think of them being used in two ways: vertically and horizontally. Bricks that are stacked on top of each other, vertically, are regular, or traditional, bricks. These bricks are used for buildings and they have the three holes going through the center of the brick. Brick pavers are solid all the way through and are used to create smooth pathways.
Any kind of solid, flat-on-all-sides bricks can be used for brick pavers (although, some manufacturers create ridges along the edges of certain bricks so they can interlace together). Brick pavers are laid very tightly together, so they don’t need any kind of mortar between them like regular bricks need when building a structure.
When you use Clear Surface Treatment on the outside of your buildings, even in small places like brick pavers, you are choosing to protect your investment and our environment. It can prevent mold and fungus from growing, as it is self-cleaning, and helps to remove pollutants from the air. Plus, it can protect the hardscapes from weathering against the elements.
